Goal and Global Context
Goal
Thousands of kids and adolescents are diagnosed with cancer each year and in 2019, I was one of them. After beating cancer, relapsing and beating it again, I have seen a whole new side of cancer that I think that childhood cancers are often forgotten about and are extremely underfunded. I want to help all of these cancer warriors overcome this disease without going through it alone and I want to raise awareness about childhood cancers and educate people on how they can help and what these patients are going through.
My goal is to create a guide to dealing with cancer when you’re young. I will speak with as many young cancer patients as I can to learn about different experiences and to see how similar or different everyone’s journey is. I want this my guide to be in the form of a podcast where I won’t just talk about my personal journey but also share tips and tricks that I learned along the way, I want this guide to be everything I wish I had when I was first diagnosed.
This goal is challenging for me since it is difficult for me to open up about what my cancer journey was really like and I hope that while working towards my goal others will hear my story and feel better and that they know that they have someone who went through similar things and if I accomplish this then the fear of opening up will be worth it for me.
Global Context
The global context that applies to my goal is identities and relationships since my blog is mostly cancer patients expressing themselves and their identities and finding a safe and helpful space where they can form meaningful relationships with other people going through similar things. This podcast will also help me express myself and will make me share my experiences and hopefully while doing so, I can process and look back at my lowest point and see how much I’ve grown from it which I will then show other cancer patients so that they can see that things to get better. And I believe that expressing yourself helps you define your identity and helps people just like you know that their not alone which is what I hope my podcast will accomplish.
